The Corrosive Cult of Cancel Culture

Newsletter | September 29, 2022

For too long America has been forced into the crazy nightmare reality created by the press and social media. It’s high-time to break out of this dark asylum and breathe the fresh air of liberty!

They told us the president of the United States was a Russian spy. They said his national security advisor was, too — a man who served his country in uniform for nearly four decades, who is now America’s Future Board Chair – Lt. General Michael T. Flynn, USA (Ret.)

And that was just the beginning of the insanity the press has forced on the American public.

Over the last few weeks, this newsletter has featured a special series on the media. We’ve explored the problems with our supposedly independent press, showed how they lost their way, and debated whether they can ever find their way back. If you’re like us at America’s Future, you’ve probably spent some time wondering what caused such a fundamental breakdown.

Yes, they’ve proven themselves partisans and propagandists, but it’s time to consider what makes them “tick.” Only the truly deranged and damaged spend their lives trying to figure out how to destroy the lives of others. And that’s exactly what cancel culture is — a big cult of unhinged and dangerous people who keep lining up victims for execution by media.

They push stories into the public sphere that anyone with an iota of common sense immediately recognizes as a hoax or an outright lie. Does the media selling this garbage actually believe it? It’s hard to tell looking into the wild-eyed TV pontificators throwing daggers at whoever may be the target-of-the-day.

Oh yeah, sure, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was a teenage serial sex abuser. Donald Trump is hoarding nuclear secrets. There are limitless genders and men can become pregnant. Hunter Biden’s laptop was planted by the Russians. Ultrasound heartbeats are fake.  Our southern border is secure. COVID vaccines are 95% effective — so long as you keep getting booster shots…and on and on.

That anyone believes this stuff is almost enough to make you lose hope in America. And that’s the point — they want you to be as depressed and demoralized as they are. They want you to give up, abandon your families, forsake your communities, and betray your country. Just like they have, the forlornly hopeless.

You might even feel bad for them their lives are so sad, but there’s no time for pitying those who want to divide our great country.

So break out! Live free and speak up. Others are. American mothers and fathers are standing up for their children. And a new wave of politicians is entering the arena for the fight of a lifetime to save our country. What you hear when you exit the media’s crazed bubble is the chorus of clear American voices, and it’s growing stronger every day, singing out for family, faith, freedom – the pillars of our Republic.

The ties that bind Americans together are our history, values, traditions and so much more. Not the media, bias narratives and corrupt politicians. Take our Reader’s Survey and let us know what you think. And watch America’s Mondays With Mary at 9 a.m. every Monday when she shares some of our survey comments and provides updates about America’s Future activities.

Keeping You Informed
Let Civility and Respect Prevail

For generations, parents have used the adage, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me.” The catchy phrase is typically used to help children deal with the pain of being victimized by bullies.  Whether the principles underscoring the meaning hold true in real life is debatable. However, it’s safe to say that bullying and spewing hate does cause pain and may be a catalyst for violence – especially coming from powerful politicians.

Calling a person or a group of people or referencing those Americans who believe in the Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda as “semi-Fascist” as President Biden recently did in a round-about way is unwarranted.  In fact, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) explained in the 1942 landmark decision Chaplinsky v New Hampshire, those “fighting words” are not protected speech under our Constitution because “by their very utterance inflict injury or tend to incite an immediate breach of the peace.” (Specifically, the President stated in an August 25,2022 speech, “I’m going to say something – it’s almost like semi-fascism.”)

In Chaplinsky, a criminal conviction and a state law making it criminal to “address any offensive, derisive or annoying word to any other person who is lawfully in any street or other public place [or] call him by any offensive or derisive name” were upheld.  That case centered around accusing a person of being a  Fascist and Racketeer.

In upholding the conviction and statute, the SCOTUS explained that First Amendment speech protections are not limitless and calling people Fascists is outside the bounds of morality and is intended to incite a breach of the peace.

It has been well observed that such utterances are no essential part of any exposition of ideas and are of such slight social value as a step to truth that any benefit that may be derived from them is clearly outweighed by the social interest in order and morality. Resort to epithets or personal abuse is not in any proper sense communication of information or opinion safeguarded by the Constitution…Argument is unnecessary to demonstrate that the appellations ‘damned racketeer’ and ‘damned Fascist’ are epithets likely to provoke the average person to retaliation, and thereby cause a breach of the peace.”

We, at America’s Future, stand for civility, dignity and respectful dissent. It is wholly irresponsible at the very least to spread hate and divide by any person. Fascism thrives in oppressive tyranny and contravenes America’s ideals of liberty, independence, and equal justice for all. It is more important now than ever to remain levelheaded and composed even in the face of unfounded accusations and misleading hyperbole.

Prominent California Pastor “Calls Out” Governor Newsom

As government pursues increasingly evil policies, one of the comments we often hear is:  “Why are the pulpits so silent?” Well, Los Angeles Pastor John MacArthur, who has been critical of government since the COVID shutdown of churches, now has taken the lead.  MacArthur has shown how to fulfill the Church’s duty to rebuke the civil government when it is wrong.

In a letter sent today, September 29, 2022, to California Governor Gavin Newsom, Pastor MacArthur took off the gloves.  MacArthur itemized the immoral policies that Newsom has pushed on California, including abortion, homosexuality and transgenderism that have lead to great misery in the State.  Pastor MacArthur rebuked Newsom for blasphemy in twisting the words of Jesus.  He called Newsom to repent, to save his own soul, and to protect the people of the state from judgment.

Read Pastor MacArthur’s letter here, and let’s join together in prayer that other church leaders will be silent no longer, and those in government will respond.

Unequal Justice Under Law
The Roots of the FBI’s Suppression of Dissent

This is the sixth article in our series on the nation’s premiere law enforcement agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and its self-destruction over time.

With each day’s headlines, the American people are waking up to the fact that the FBI routinely works to silence the voices of those who oppose the policies of the Deep State.  What many do not realize is that this type of intimidation by federal “law enforcement” officers has deep roots that go back to the earliest days of the FBI.

A walk-through history reminds us that the agency’s culture of abuse is nothing new.

After much priming by the pro-war press, Congress declared war on April 6, 1917, bringing the nation into World War I.  On June 5, 1917, the registration of all men between the ages of 21 and 31 was ordered, and the reality of war was brought home, provoking significant opposition.  The government had legitimate concern about the possibility of German and other Axis agents operating in the United States.  However, in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution, it was also, perhaps even more, concerned about any form of opposition to the Wilson Administration from American citizens.

In 1919 and 1920, under the direction of a young agent named J. Edgar Hoover, President Wilson’s FBI carried out what are known as the “Palmer Raids.”  Thousands of citizens in numerous cities were arrested, often without warrants, sometimes holding them for months without charges or attorneys.  In Detroit, nearly 1,000 men were detained and starved for almost a week in a small area without windows on the top floor of the federal building, accused of being “radicals” and “anarchists.”  The raids swept up an estimated 3,000 to 10,000 persons deemed “radicals” and “anarchists.”  Many of those arrested were beaten and denied due process for nothing more than having a foreign accent.

At the time, a “group of legal scholars including future Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, Ernst Freund, and Harvard Law School Dean Roscoe Pound published a scathing critique of the raids, saying they lacked arrest warrants, directed officers to seize documents at will, and permitted unrestrained force.”

Future Supreme Court Justice Harlan Stone attacked the raids in his testimony before the Senate in 1921.  He argued that “any system” that permits law enforcement agencies to “restrain the liberty of individuals, without safeguards … will result in abuse of power.”  Stone argued that the FBI “maintained many activities which were without any authority and federal statutes and engaged in many practices which were brutal and tyrannical in the extreme,” including “indiscriminate arrest of the innocent with the guilty, unlawful seizures by federal detectives, intimidating preliminary interrogations of aliens held incommunicado, high-handed levying of excessive bail, and denial of counsel.”

In the face of widespread criticism, J. Edgar Hoover doggedly defended the Bureau’s illegal and abusive acts, even arguing that to allow the persons arrested to speak to lawyers would “defeat the ends of justice.”

Finally, a single courageous federal judge stood up against the illegal Palmer raids.  Ordering 13 prisoners freed, Circuit Court Judge George W. Anderson charged that the Wilson regime had created a “spy system” that “destroys trust and confidence and propagates hate.”  “A mob is a mob whether made up of government officials acting under instructions from the Department of Justice, or of criminals, loafers and the vicious classes,” he said. Judge Anderson had been nominated to the First Circuit by President Wilson, but he had the character to resist Wilson’ policies.  Only rarely have courageous judges sought to hold the FBI accountable to law.

Six decades later, in 1979, the Palmer raids were reviewed by the U.S. House Select Committee on Assassinations which scathingly noted that the Palmer raids had come to “symbolize the misuse of police power for a political purpose.” Yet, Congress did virtually nothing to bring the FBI under control.

The Palmer raids are a particularly grim warning today, as the FBI attacks the political opponents of the Biden regime, most recently demonstrated by a raid on and arrest of a pro-life Catholic activist in front of his seven children.  In response, 22 Congressional Republicans at least had the courage to send a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, stating that this latest raid “appears to be an extraordinary overreach for political ends.”  The question remains whether Congress will have the courage to actually restore the rule of law which requires a great deal more than just writing letters.
