Conquering Corruption For The Ages

Newsletter | April 25, 2024

American Eagle and American Flag

To fathom the depths of corruption to which our elites have sunk, it’s not enough to look upon their works — open borders, surging crime rates, record-high inflation, an endless cash flow to Ukraine, and of course, a poisonous campaign of lawfare waged against the ruling party’s opponents, including the leader of the opposition. We must also take account of their children.

Behold then the Ivy League and other top institutions of higher learning across the nation, roiled by pro-Hamas protests since the Palestinian terror organization murdered 1200 people on October 7, including dozens of American citizens.  In deference to the terror-supporting teens, this week, Columbia University shut its doors and announced that for the rest of the semester, classes will be online only. Why will no one stand up to them? Because of the power standing behind them.

Yes, filling the campus quads are not the children of the earth’s most downtrodden. Rather, the boys and girls leading chants to exterminate Jews and hoisting banners in praise of terrorists are the sons and daughters of the elites. Their monstrous morality reflects the values of their parents and other leading authority figures, including the professoriate.

To date, at Columbia, only one professor, an Israeli named Shai Davidai who teaches at the business school, has stood against the mob to defend not only Jewish students but also the values of Western civilization. He’s an honorable man to be commended for his courage as much as his morals. The rest of the faculty insist it’s time for the students to put into practice the vile ideas they’ve taught them about class struggle, “resistance,” and Marxism. It seems, unfortunately, that their charges were attentive pupils.

Asked by an interviewer whether Hamas should release the hostages after half a year in captivity, students answered no. Unfortunately, that can come as no surprise at this point. The same campus cohort celebrates abortions and the industrial-scale sterilization and mutilation of children, aka the trans agenda. The students pose as edgy outsiders rebelling against convention, but the reality is that they stand for the same causes advocated by the political insiders, media celebrities, hedge-fund managers, Big Tech executives, and corporate oligarchs who sit on top of the establishment — their parents.

The spectacle unfolding at Columbia and other universities is designed to make ordinary Americans despair, an emotional state no doubt intended to be reinforced by the fact that the White House plans to cancel this cohort’s college loan debt. The message is that these are the regime’s beloved little ones, whose terror and terrible ideas they aim to compel us ordinary Americans to fund.

Instead, we’ll use it as an example to distinguish ourselves from our corrupt ruling class and their vicious offspring. We’ll continue to instruct our children and grandchildren in the values that have inspired us from our Founding Fathers to the present and instill in them the honor and nobility befitting those who have and continue to make America great.

Please participate in our Reader’s Survey. Your insights and thoughts are important as we learn what is on the minds and in the hearts of our fellow Americans. We read them all and share some of them Mondays at 9 a.m. during America’s Future live broadcasts with our Executive Director Mary O’Neill on America’s Mondays With Mary. Thank You!

America Patriots - Thaddeus McCotter

Thaddeus McCotter is a former member of Congress, a Republican who represented Michigan’s 11th congressional district between 2003-2012. He’s also a radio host, musician (George W. Bush once referred to him as “that rock-and-roll dude”) and a trenchant cultural critic and political analyst, whose writing appears frequently in American Greatness and Chronicles Magazine. We spoke with Thaddeus to get his insights on the upcoming election and corruption on Capitol Hill.

Do you think there are any more surprises in store leading to the 2024 election?

I believe the Democrats will replace the cognitively impaired and eminently beatable Mr. Biden for a stronger presidential nominee, likely at their national convention. I would never be happier to be mistaken.

Do you miss being in Congress?

Does one miss swimming in a cesspool? I had already told a few people close to me how, if reelected in 2012, it would have been my last term. Politics had become a destructive, toxic environment, which has further devolved into a dumpster fire of the vanities fueled by ungodly sums of money. At this point, Members of Congress should post Dante above their office door: “Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.”

Was the handling of the 2008 financial crisis the biggest disaster you saw while serving in the House, or was there something worse?

The worst disaster was the failed Iraq reconstruction, which unconscionably and unnecessarily claimed the lives of Americans, Iraqis, and our allies. Domestically, the Wall Street Bailout was not only an abject betrayal of hardworking American taxpayers by bailing out the culpable parties, it also promoted the corrosive lie within a republic of equally sovereign citizens that there are some Americans and entities that are “too big to fail.” This was the genesis of the populist movements in both parties, which continues into the present with the Sanders and the Trump supporters.

What would be your first step in draining the Washington, D.C. swamp?

In a perfect world, reduce the role of money; in the real world, require full transparency in political contributions. Right now, we have unlimited, anonymous amounts of “dark money” dominating the politics of the republic. The old adage holds that “money is the mother’s milk of politics;” ergo, if you can’t stem the flow, at least know which teat the politicians are suckling.

What is your prayer for America?

I offer an abridged version of Psalms 95 and 96, asking for atonement, redemption, and renewal: “Today, if you will hear His voice: Do not harden your hearts, so we may sing to the Lord a new song!”

America’s Future Files Brief Supporting Second Amendment Rights
Gavel with law books

Today (April 25, 2024), America’s Future filed an Amicus brief with the Ninth Circuit in Baird v Bonta, Dkt. No. 24-565. As noted at the outset of our brief, “[t]his case involves a challenge to California’s virtual ban on the open carrying of firearms in public.” Our brief supports Mark Baird, the original plaintiff/present appellant in his litigation against California, arguing that several of California’s statutes violate the Second Amendment of the Constitution as applied through the Fourteenth Amendment. Mr. Baird is seeking injunctive relief and we agree that injunctive relief is warranted, such that California should be enjoined from enforcing statutes that violate the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

For background purposes, from California statehood until 1967, public open carry of firearms had never been prohibited. In 1967, however, California did enact the Mulford Act, i.e. Cal. Penal Code §25850 to prohibit open carry of a loaded firearm in public. Subsequently, in 2013, California banned public carry of any handgun, even an unloaded handgun, through the enactment of Cal. Penal Code §26350.

In this case, at the trial court level, the federal district court denied Mr. Baird’s request for injunctive relief and further held that though he had standing, he had “brought this case against the wrong defendant.”

A Ninth Circuit panel reversed the trial court and remanded the case back down with instructions to “complete its reevaluation of the requested preliminary injunction and issue a decision expeditiously.

Following remand by the Ninth Circuit panel, the trial court granted summary judgment in favor of California. Our brief explains how the trial court erred in its ruling.

The district court’s opinion insisted that open carry licenses are available to residents of small counties and municipalities, despite the record demonstrating that there is no form for such application and no such licenses have ever been issued. Based on its misrepresentation of the record, the district court recast Appellant’s challenge in a manner that allowed it to manufacture out of whole cloth an issue relating to open carry licenses, while never ruling on the merits of Appellant’s challenge to the criminal statutes.

Keeping in mind that the SCOTUS landmark ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen 597 U.S 1 (2022) has altered the framework of Second Amendment judicial resolutions, this case seems ripe for adjudication in favor of Mr. Baird.

The landmark decision respects our Framers and our Constitutional Republic.  It stands for the notion that our God-given individual inalienable right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed by overzealous government officials seeking to subjugate the citizens of this great nation, flexing political power over citizens they view as their subjects.

We urge the Ninth Circuit to promptly issue a final judgment in this case – one that is compatible with Bruen and the U.S. Constitution.  Consistent with the urging of America’s Future, the Ninth Circuit should reverse the district court’s summary judgment and find in full favor for Mr. Baird. California’s statutes, at issue, should be stricken as unconstitutional.

Tools Of Tyrants
Climate Change

This is the eighteenth entry in our In Focus series identifying and exposing the tools that modern-day tyrants are using to thwart the will of We The People for power and control. To access previous articles, please click here.

One of the most perplexing and dangerous public policy issues of the day is what is now called “Climate Change.”  Leftists in academia, politics, business, and the media have financially profited while pushing versions of this narrative.  But for most, the impact of this hysteria on our families, economy, education, mental health, and even military preparedness has been increasingly destructive.

This fear of Climate Change has been drilled into the minds of young people to the point that they are despairing of life — fearing the thought of dying before they can even grow up.  Who can forget when world leaders were snarled at in September 2019, by the teenage Swedish self-proclaimed climate advocate Greta Thunberg hurling her trademarked slogan at the audience — “How Dare You.”

Global Warming & Global Cooling

For those who can remember the past half century, it is easier to spot the sales pitch.  At the mid-1970’s, we were told that the world was threatened by “global cooling” — the beginning of a new ice age.  But that threat was hard to sell when we had hot spells.  Then we were told that there would be another ice age — which would be caused by, of all things, global warming.  Eventually the modern voices of doom finally developed the perfect threat scenario — one which could be used no matter what direction the temperature was heading — “Climate Change.”  Skeptics say that there is an even better term for the phenomenon — “Weather.”

Movements like climate change do not occur on their own.  There are wealthy and powerful global forces pushing and benefitting from this deception, and it is important to track how we got to the place we are today where the very act of questioning either global warming or the Climate Change narrative makes one a pariah in establishment circles.   A new book by a British academic, Climate Change Isn’t Everything (Polity Press: 2023), discusses the danger of Global Change being “a totalizing ideology [which] brooks no public dissent [leading to] perverse outcomes.”

The term “global warming” first appeared in print in an August 1975 paper in the journal of Science entitled Climatic Change: Are We on the Brink of a Pronounced Global Warming?  The cause was embraced rapidly around the world.  Not surprisingly, it was the United Nations which took the lead to develop international environmental treaties — beginning with the 1987 Montreal Protocol.  The 1997 Kyoto Protocol required industrialized nations to cut greenhouse gas to 5 percent below 1990 levels, and more recently, the 2015 Paris Agreement is demanding  even more stringent policies.

Climate Change Profiteers

In 1992, Senator Al Gore’s book Earth in the Balance, proposed a “Global Marshall Plan,” which pushed a host of Leftist initiatives:  population control, environmental regulation, and global economic coordination.  Following his Vice Presidency, Gore’s sequel An Inconvenient Truth, was published in 2006, along with the companion movie Gore narrated.  Gore continues to push for globalist climate policies, while investing in environmental venture capital firms that profit from an environmental agenda.

Leftist schemes include carbon taxes, electric vehicle mandates, and “Green Energy” quotas enacted by governments.  “Green energy” companies receive many billions of dollars per year in subsidies, and further their interests with campaign contributions; in 2020, 70% went to Democrats.  Environmental group giving is even more heavily partisan, as in 2020, 97% went to Democrats.   A website Climate Realism explains:  “Wind and solar power receive substantially more subsidies than conventional energy sources.  Wind power by itself receives more source-specific government subsidies than all conventional energy sources combined.  Solar power by itself also receives more source-specific government subsidies than all conventional energy sources combined.”

Academia is also on the gravy train. Government spending for “climate research” keeps science departments busy and dependent on taxpayer funds: from 1995 to 2018 the EPA alone distributed over $175,000,000 in research grants. Since universities are heavily funded by the federal government, it is not difficult to find “scientists” who will take whatever cause the government is funding.

Although the uniparty in Congress often joins forces to spend billions of our dollars, ostensibly to stop climate change, there are still some voices of resistance.  President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Paris Agreement, but Biden re-entered it on his first day as President.

Impending Doom, Again

Using the excuse of saving the Earth from “climate change,” Mr. Gore, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Greta Thunberg and other radical activists have prophesied impending doom that never seems to actually happen.  Even some climate-change acolytes can see the harm in this:  “The irresponsibility of ‘two years to save the planet’” by Ross Clark describes the hyperbolic language used by climate alarmists, such as the concept of a climate crisis or giving humanity a countdown to disaster, and how it is counterproductive or even harmful.”

Such apocryphal prognostication brings significant harms: “…one troubling result of catastrophizing, and that is the state of mental health among younger people.  Clark talks about a 2021 study which asked students at the University of Bath between the ages of 16 and 25 questions about climate change, which found ‘45 per cent of people in this age group were so worried about climate change that it was affecting their day-to-day life, while 56 per cent said that they thought humanity was doomed and 40 per cent said they were hesitant to have children because they would be bringing them up in an uninhabitable world.’

Diverting Military Funds

“Climate change” also is playing an outsized and “distracting” role in U.S. military preparedness: while some blame the armed forces for their contribution to the problem through pollution, the narrative that changing climate brings increasing humanitarian and military crises would seem to indicate a need to increase military capability.

Policies of the Obama and Biden administrations (and even during the Trump administration) pressure the military to view defense planning through the “climate” lens and transition to more expensive and unreliable “green” equipment.  The U.S. Navy in 2009 initiated the “Great Green Fleet” plan for a fleet powered by “alternative energy” — some experienced officers and elected officials have responded with concern that the policies “lack a sound foundation, putting warfighting capability at risk” and calls to “Sink the Great Green Fleet.”

Carbon Dioxide – Essential for life

Much of the focus of Climate Change is on Carbon Dioxide.  While CO2 is demonized by the climate change zealots, it is vital for life.  One article explains that higher carbon levels benefit health in many ways,”  as “more CO2 means more oxygen is delivered to our cells, improving our energy production…. The higher the concentration of CO2, the more effectively oxygen can be utilized and the better we will make energy.”  One of the reasons that the population control advocates may not like CO2 is that it improves longevity.  At higher altitudes, there are higher CO2 levels, and lower rates of cancer and heart disease.  If you want to search for the benefits of CO2, expect that you will not find them in the first pages of your average Google search.

Al Gore and others predict devastation by rising sea levels from melting polar ice, but the Arctic and Antarctic icehave actually been steady or growing.  Other “scientific evidence shows current temperatures are unusually cool, not hot.”  But facts have no bearing when Congress wants to pay off its friends, and our media watchdogs are incentivized not to report how Congress is wasting our money.  If Global Warming is nothing more than a huge hoax, just think of all the incorrect spending and investment decisions that have been based on it.  It will be a miracle if the waste and corruption it has spawned does not bring down the nation.  Thus, the true threat today is not Climate Change, but rather our mindless fear and willingness to fund those stirring up the fear from which they profit.
