Due Process Denied When Deception Exists

Top.Secret

How did journalists become the public face of America’s secretive elites? How did they turn from searching for truth to serve the public good to acting as covert stenographers for law enforcement and intelligence services? Up until very recently, the press prided itself on its independence. More than a hundred years ago, the New York Times spoke for all American pressmen when it promised readers “to give the news impartially, without fear or favor, regardless of party, sect, or interests involved.”

In our on-going series on the self-destruction of the legacy media, this week we take a look at how this once worthy profession has thus far escaped accountability for the pain and suffering they’ve caused fellow Americans in their partnership with powerful oligarchs and their lieutenants.

Impartiality, or telling it straight, was “how” the media served a free society and paid its debt to the Founding Fathers who ensured that our God-given rights to speak freely and communicate ideas and expressions to one another, whether quietly around our dinner tables or openly in the public square, were enshrined in the Bill of Rights. We are all equally entitled to these rights. However, those who hold themselves out to the public as journalists have a greater responsibility to adhere to the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

Earlier generations of journalists knew that betraying the First Amendment, the foundation of their profession, would have meant siding with power over everyday hardworking Americans supporting their families and contributing to their communities. What we’re seeing now in our media represents a conscious break with that great American tradition. Indeed, today a corrupt ethos dominates the press, ranging from large news organizations – like the New York Times – to anonymous social media accounts.

Consider how many reports of the “big stories” of the day are based on corrupt, deceptive information unlawfully leaked by law enforcement, intelligence services, and/or political operatives. In turn, that same information passed to the press is next recycled into warrant applications and indictments by the very same cabal of leakers collaborating to put their targets behind bars before they’ve even come to trial. If sordid conduct like this is what it takes for a warrant to issue or to indict, fair and equal justice for all has failed. In more and more cases in American Jurisprudence, this cozy, corrupt media partnership with politicized government agents and operatives has been successful in framing US citizens.

For instance, after one jury found that defendants accused of attempting to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer had been entrapped by the FBI, a second trial found two men guilty of the fabricated charges.

At other times, the press has failed in its efforts to destroy lives. For instance, despite the media’s portrayal of Kyle Rittenhouse as a violent and “racist” criminal — who in fact shot three white men in self-defense — a jury of his peers found him innocent.

And then of course there is the ongoing effort of an “anything goes” press and a politicized justice department bending laws and colluding together to prosecute the 45th president of the United States with everything from obstruction of an official investigation to espionage.

At America’s Future, we pray that our nation may avoid the likely chaos that would ensue should the current President, via his Department of Justice, break all protocol and indict his predecessor. We urge you to join us in demanding that the press be held accountable for damaging the reputations and in some cases, the lives of innocent Americans. When one American is denied due process, every American suffers.

Americans are awakening to the attacks on good, patriotic Americans by a wayward media that parrots biased information from hidden sources in many cases. Please take our Reader’s Survey and let us know your thoughts on the deceptive practices and lack of accountability in the media today. Thank you for participating with hundreds of our newsletter readers each week. And remember to watch our Executive Director Mary O’Neill on America’s Mondays With Mary at 9 a.m. every Monday when she shares readers’ survey responses.

Unequal Justice Under Law

The Left’s Flip-Flop on the FBI

This is the second part in our series on the nation’s premiere law enforcement agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and its self-destruction over time.

From its earliest days, the political Left in America has been highly critical of FBI abuses of civil liberties.  With the advent of World War I and Congress’ enactment of the Espionage Act of 1917, the FBI began use of wiretapping and opening U.S. Mail as part of its nationwide surveillance of Americans.  To be sure, the Bureau surveilled those thought to be German agents, but it also targeted political activists who were critical of U.S. entry into the war.  As far back as 1924, an ACLU report described the FBI as “a secret police system of a political character.”

The Left’s criticism of the FBI intensified over the “Cointelpro” operation, which lasted from 1956 to 1971.  There, the FBI targeted and disrupted political activities of American citizens viewed as troublemakers, particularly civil rights activists and the Black Panther Party.  The FBI wiretapped, surveilled, and harassed Martin Luther King, Jr., and many believe at one point tried to drive him to commit suicide.

More recently, the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General examined the FBI in the years after 9/11, and its report showed the FBI had focused on left-leaning groups such as Greenpeace, Catholic Worker, and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, violating its own policies while surveilling Americans. The Left objected when the Espionage Act was used against whistle blowers who revealed details of the NSA mass surveillance programs and the CIA’s use of torture to fight its war on terror.

All this changed during the Trump Era with the FBI’s protection of Hillary Clinton and Hunter Biden while attacking anyone in the MAGA movement.

Some on the Left now are thrilled that the Espionage Act could be used to indict President Trump, as the search warrant used to justify the Mar-a-Lago raid asserted possible violations of that Act.  The Left has made clear that they have no objections to a “secret police system” — it just needs to be their secret police.  Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich explains: “The arrogance, aggressiveness, and dishonesty of the FBI has turned it into the left-wing secret police.”

Congressional Democrats have attacked the FBI for decades, but when Republicans pushed back against the FBI raid, soon-to-be former Rep. Liz Cheney tweeted, “I have been ashamed to hear [Republicans] attacking the integrity of the FBI agents…. These are sickening comments…” Former FBI agent Peter Strzok told MSNBC, “Absolutely the American public should trust what the FBI is doing. It’s not that the FBI is targeting any one side or the other.” Really?

At America’s Future, we believe that everyone’s Constitutional rights must be protected — or we will have lost the rule of law.  The FBI’s violation of the rights of Leftist activists is just as serious as its violation of the rights of Conservative activists.  The nation cannot survive if federal law enforcement personnel who are entrusted to carry badges and guns act as the enforcement arm of those politicians currently in power.

A Deserving Holiday For Hardworking Americans

America was built by men and women who shed blood, sweat and tears fighting tyranny at every turn and laying the groundwork for a self-governing nation existing in freedom.  Our legacy of freedom is rooted in our God-given inalienable rights, and American principles of independence and self-sufficiency.

Labor Day weekend kicks off tomorrow and hardworking Americans deserve it.  The Federal holiday is observed each year on the first Monday in September.  The U.S. Department of Labor  recognizes that Labor Day is “an annual celebration of the social and economic achievements of American workers…to recognize the many contributions workers have made to America’s strength, prosperity, and well-being…”

The holiday originated in the late nineteenth century in conjunction with the rise of labor unions and though it is not entirely clear who initially proposed the idea of a Labor Day holiday, the two frontrunners were both leaders of labor unions.

Labor unions, in one form or another, have existed in America since the birth of our nation.  Groups of unified organized workers have banded together for over two centuries in America to demand civil rights be respected in the workplace; to ensure safety standards be implemented in the workplace; and to advocate and negotiate for fair pay, equal pay, due process and suitable working conditions.

In 1866, the National Labor Union was created with the goal of protecting workers’ rights pushing for solutions to ease the long hours and long work weeks that many workers faced during this time; limiting the workday to eight hours to ensure adequate time for family and rest was specific objective.  Less than 20 years later individual state governments (followed shortly thereafter by our federal government) observed a Labor Day holiday to recognize and honor hardworking Americans.

Although labor unions have long served important public goals in the face of powerful and wealthy employers, particularly governments and corporations, too much power in the hands of too few, whether it is the union leadership or wealthy connected employers, is a natural recipe for corruption and abuses of authority and influence.

The American way of life – our culture – is tethered to the tenets of strong work ethics, diligence, industry, innovation, persistence, and determination.  It is our legacy.  Americans have never shied away from a hard day’s work.  We are a determined people.  We crave independence and seek to reach our potential, always striving to accomplish goals we set for ourselves whether personal or professional.

On this Labor Day, raise the American flag at your home or business, and once again, pledge allegiance to our nation that has given us so much to be grateful for.
