Stand Firm In Truth

American Flag

Make no mistake. The whirling sound you hear is America spinning out of control. Why? Because the hand on the rudder steering our ship of state is unsteady and incompetent — and his corruption has warped the rudder itself. But no one is allowed to say what everyone knows to be true. The ruling class has built a censorship industry combining the efforts of Big Tech, the media, and spy services to censor the truth. And if you manage to evade the digital guardians of Deep State secrets, they’ll send the government to shut you up.

That’s what happened this week when a federal judge granted Joe Biden administration prosecutors the gag order they requested to silence his political rival, the forty-fifth President of the United States. And still, Donald Trump is climbing in the polls. It must be a miracle, right? No, it’s just evidence that no matter how much the ruling class tries to hide its corruption, Americans see the truth: Our ruling class is corrupt, inept, and pathological. In the upside-down world they’ve built, what’s bad is good, adversaries are partners, and terrorism is not only acceptable but estimable.

But that can’t hide that Joe Biden has a hostage crisis on his hands. It’s the worst since Islamic revolutionaries stormed the U.S. Embassy in Iran in 1979 and captured 52 Americans. This time, it’s Iran’s Palestinian asset Hamas that’s holding more than a dozen Americans, after the terror group killed 30 U.S. citizens among the 1400 Israelis it slaughtered October 7. The media has good reason to try to bury Biden’s hostage crisis since the 1979 version cost another incumbent Democratic Party president, Jimmy Carter, a second term in office.

But unlike Carter, Biden has staffed his administration with activists who support Iran and their terror assets. For instance, the White House’s Iran envoy, Robert Malley, facilitated an Iranian spy ring and inserted one of its agents into high-level national security positions. Yes, hard as it may be to believe, a U.S. official hired an Iranian agent of influence named Ariane Tabatabai for a job at the State Department. She’d been in regular contact with high-ranking Iranian officials, including members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, the organization that plots against America and its allies. Malley has been put on leave without pay, but Tabatabai is still in the U.S. government. She’s chief of staff to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations.

Other Biden officials are frustrated that the White House isn’t more pro-Iran, more pro-Hamas. Even after Biden went to Jerusalem to pledge $100 million to rebuild Gaza, and thus rebuild Hamas, and warn longtime U.S. ally Israel to go easy on the terrorists that murdered 1400 people, that’s not enough for the radical faction he leads. They demand more.

Yesterday (Oct. 18), thousands of pro-Palestinian radicals stormed Capitol Hill to demand Congress impose a ceasefire and stop Israel from uprooting Hamas. Hundreds were led away in handcuffs. They’re charged with the same category of minor offenses that have put January 6 protestors in jail, but the pro-Palestinian mobs will walk away with a slap on the wrist, at best. They’re the elites’ foot soldiers, for their cause is that of the establishment — anything that undoes American peace and prosperity is good for America’s corrupt, inept, and pathological ruling class.

It’s time we take back our ship and cast the mutineers overboard. Stand strong and say the truth, especially when our self-appointed betters try to muzzle us.

America Patriots - Glenn Ellmers

Glenn Ellmers is the author of a new book showing how political philosophy can help illuminate our current condition as a country and its citizens, The Narrow Passage: Plato, Foucault, and the Possibility of Political Philosophy. Drawing on the work of classical and modern philosophers, Ellmers argues that it’s a good moment for conservatives to question the validity of once trusted institutions, like the Justice Department, that progressive activists have weaponized against their political opponents — namely, traditional America. Today, the Salvatori Research Fellow in the American Founding at the Claremont Institute, Glenn has held positions in the federal, as well as California government. We spoke with him recently to get his thoughts on where our great country is heading.

You’ve said what we’re seeing now is a continuation of the fights that divided America in the 1960s and 70s, what does the outcome look like to you?

At the moment, the Left doesn’t see any need to compromise, or even dialogue, with anyone on the Right. I suspect that only a severe crisis—such as a financial collapse or a war—will force something to give.

After the recent student protests supporting Arab terror groups, a number of university donors have promised, or threatened, to cut off the cash flow unless things change. Will this have any effect on higher education?

If anything will work, hitting them financially is it; since they do love their comfort and security. The next step is to challenge their status and credibility as bastions of higher learning and intellectual excellence—which is, of course, a joke.

What subjects and ideas are your students interested in?

Most of the students I interact with right now are the ones in the Claremont Institute’s fellowship programs, where I do most of my teaching. They are still interested in history and politics, of course, which have a new urgency. But also art, music, and literature, since one of the worst things about our leftwing ruling class is that it hates beauty as much as truth. So my students are interested in the connection between the Beautiful and the Good—as the things that make human life worth living.

Is it possible to restore broken institutions like the FBI, or do we have to start with something new?

Start over. There is no need to tear down the building of course, but the culture is hopelessly corrupt.

What is your prayer for America?

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

America’s Future Files SCOTUS Brief Supporting Jan 6 Defendant
Gavel with Scales of Justice

On Friday, October 13, 2023, America’s Future and two other nonprofits filed an Amicus brief with the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) in Fischer v United States (U.S.), SCOTUS Dkt. No. 23-5572.  The public docket in this case is located here

The brief urges the SCOTUS to intervene in the federal criminal case brought against Petitioner, Mr. Joseph Fischer, for participating in the Jan 6 Capitol protest. Mr. Fischer is accused of violating 18 U.S.C.§1512, a charge carrying a 20-year prison sentence as a penalty.  This is the same “obstruction” charge levied against Donald Trump in the District of Columbia criminal case. The legal issue presented to the Supreme Court focuses on the proper interpretation, or legal definition, of the word “otherwise” found in the statute charged.

Whether the Court agrees to hear Mr. Fischer’s case in the first place, and if so, how it resolves it, could foretell a great deal about the Court’s willingness to take on future cases of great significance. This case could forecast how the Court might examine the political persecution of President Trump and the massive other abuses of power carried out by the D.C. establishment.

America sits at a dangerous precipice. The stakes are high, and we pray that the SCOTUS seizes upon every opportunity because it must ensure America’s path to prosperity is returned; truth matters. Mr. Fisher is entitled to due process, fair treatment, and equal justice under the laws.  And, so too, is President Trump and every American.

In Focus Using The Congressional Impeachment Power

Eight Republican Congressmen Opposing a Biden Impeachment

This is the tenth entry in our IN FOCUS section examining the impeachment power to help give readers a historical and constitutional context to this political process. To access previous articles, please click here.

Due to the fact that the House of Representatives has been without a Speaker since October 3, 2023, there has been a complete stoppage of business on the House floor.  Fortunately, some of the Committees working on impeachment have been moving along — albeit slowly.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has just written Special Counsel Robert Hur to request access to the classified documents taken home by Biden when he was Vice President.  Hur was named in January 2023 to investigate President Biden’s handling of classified records, but like other Attorney General Merrick Garland’s appointees, appears to be in no rush.  Mr. Comer wants to see if the classified documents in Hur’s possession could relate to Biden’s selling of influence to certain other countries.  There is no reason to believe Hur will cooperate.  Whenever Hur is mentioned in the press, he is described as an appointee of President Trump, but Hur was a key aide to two of DOJ’s most aggressive anti-Trumpers — Chris Wray and Rod Rosenstein.  Don’t expect much from this “Republican” Department of Justice lawyer.

By any standard, the impeachment investigation is moving slowly simply because many old-line Republicans oppose impeachment.  Republicans can afford to lose support from only four House Republicans, but at the moment, there are eight known holdouts — from eight different states.

So, who are those “Republican” Congressmen refusing to hold Biden accountable?

1.  The most outspoken member is Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), who once had a reputation as a conservative.  But since Biden’s election, Buck has begun to cozy up to the Administration.  Buck, a former federal prosecutor, has a “good relationship” with Biden’s weaponized Attorney General Garland, who recently joined Buck at an event in his district.  Buck also voted to certify Biden’s 2020 election, and demanded that Colorado Republicans “trust the system,” despite the myriad of state election laws broken in the 2020 election.  Conservatives in Buck’s district are furious, and several, including state Rep. Richard Holtorf, have begun considering primary challenges to Buck in 2024. “Right now it appears that it’s about time for Ken Buck to pack his suitcase, just like Liz Cheney,” Holtorf said.

2.  Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) is a mostly pro-abortion and anti-gun “moderate” who has opposed impeachment.  “I will tell you, every time we walk the plank, we are putting moderate members, members [in Biden-won districts].  We are putting those seats at risk for 2024.  We are putting the majority at risk.  And it’s not just impeachment that does that.  Other issues, like abortion, et cetera, also put those members on the plank,” Mace said in July.

3. Another Biden apologist is Rep. David Joyce (R-OH), who stubbornly claims he is “not seeing facts or evidence” to support impeachment.  Like Buck, Joyce opposes the conservative position on other issues as well, finding the prospect of a temporary so-called “government shutdown” a greater threat than a $30 trillion national debt.  “You hear a lot of rumor and innuendo … but that’s not fact to me,” Joyce said.

4. Another dissenter is Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) who argues there is not enough “concrete evidence” and stated that McCarthy “is going to have to sell us” on impeachment.

5.  Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) said during the Trump impeachment that impeachment is “a constitutional nuclear option of last resort,” and he doesn’t appear to have changed his mind now, stating that “we’re converting into essentially a vote of no confidence [like] in the British Parliament.  And I don’t want to see our country go down that path.

6.  Rep. Michael Lawler (R-NY) likewise argues that “we’re not there yet” to begin impeachment proceedings.  “Impeachment should not be political,” he said.

7.  Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) also demurred.  “Impeachment is going to suck all the oxygen out of this place.…  The people back at home in my district are worried about … real issues.”

8.  Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-SD) told CNN in September:  “There is a constitutional and legal test that you have to meet with evidence.”  “I have not seen that evidence.”

On the other side of Capitol Hill, not surprisingly, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who seems content to be a permanent Minority Leader, has warned House Republicans, “Impeachment ought to be rare.  This is not good for the country.”  McConnell, of course, led 18 Senate Republicans to join Democrats in passing the bloated 2022 “omnibus” bill, adding $1.7 trillion to a $30 trillion national debt.  Several other Senate Republicans echoed McConnell’s dodge.  Impeachment “should generally be avoided for the interest of the country,” said Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL).  “It can’t become routine.”  Senator Shelly Moore Capito (R-WV) has said she “does not believe there’s enough evidence” to impeach.

Meanwhile, former President Trump is calling for primary challenges to House Republicans who refuse to impeach Biden. “The biggest complaint I get … is that the Republicans find out this information and then they do nothing about it,” he said.  The filing deadlines for 2024 Congressional primaries are just a few months away in many states and challengers to these weak “Republicans” are emerging.  As President Reagan said about incumbents — “When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.”
